Vasodilation

It's Day 6 and we got moved to a different room...a nice and bigger one for more visitors and room for Kimberly to pump. :) Aiden is eating like his dad and his mom can't keep up with the food supply. We all got to hold him today for the first time even though he's still got wires hooked up to him. He absolutely LOVES laying in his mom's arms and, consequently, his respiratory rate stays within a good range. His dad is feeling a little under the weather today (hence the mask) so it's mommy-bonding day. He was also happy to have some family stop by including his Grandpa Curry and Char. Click on the photos above to see more.

The doctor noticed some increase in his liver size and his AI is still in the moderate range. He's still taking Capoten for the AI but we all hope that this gets better. They added some Nitric Oxide to his oxygen to help vasodilate (i.e. help) his lungs. Normally babies have high pulmonary pressures that drop within a week. But because Aiden's heart was sick, those pressures are still remaining high. Ok, I'm learning more than I wanted to know here. It takes some special people to work with babies in an ICU.

So it looks like we'll be in the CICU for at least a couple more days until his numbers stabilize and charts show improvement. The intensivist even suggested going at a slower pace now. We're ok with letting little Aiden tell all of us when he's ready.

  1. It's so good to see a family photo of you guys! I'm so happy you can hold him now. Hang in there. You guys are so strong and you're in the home stretch now. Can't wait to meet him. When Mia sees his picture she keeps saying Baby Aiden.
